it’s getting so i have more swap/thrifted clothes than new store-bought clothes! i’m proudly wearing a dress that’s obviously handmade & i’m guessing the 70s from the type of terry cloth it’s made out of. gotta love it!
handmade camel terry cloth dress from sip & swap 2010
leather belt from barneys outlet
thrifted gold necklace (via global thrift)
target metal leaf headband

i’m not really a headband girl, but when i saw these at target, i snapped it up. i’m also really *not* the ethereal woodland nymph kinda girl. i should have bought two headbands, put the leaves on either side of my head & channel more a julius caesar vibe…hahaha!

of all the looks…this is my absolute FAVORITE! so, of course this blue & red silk print is TDF, but with the yellow silk straps, it just pops! it wasn’t even her showcase last piece! but i’m calling this one…the BEST! it’s called the “amara.”

today’s photo reminds me of back when i was in grad school & we only had one car, so i was *always* sitting on the steps waiting for MDH to get me after class. by the time he did, my other classmates were long gone & i felt like that abandoned third grader whose daddy forgot to pick her up. considering this dress came from the girl’s section of target, the feeling seems apropos :)

i didn’t change much in the way of styling this dress from the last time i wore it. i just love the shape & sweet pattern so much, i don’t like to junk up the look with too many accessories, jackets, cardigans, etc. however, i did keep it season appropriate. in the spring, i kept my shoes & belt more neutral to highlight the blush pink & beige tones in the dress. this time for summer, i’m highlighting (literally) the brighter yellows in the dress with my shoes. for the next time i wear it, there are darker greens & olives in this dress that will carry me into fall :)

i’m still impressed with these cynthia vincent wedges from target that i got months ago. they’re of a manmade material, but not stiff & don’t cut into my feet at all. they’re *mad* comfy…even has some cushion to the insole & are walkable all day every day…and helllloooo…they’re yellow! what girl DOESN’T love her yellow shoes :)

before the actual swap began, amy had also brought in some photographers for some fun time fashion blogger shooting which was great for me because (of course) i totally FAILED on taking my own outfit pictures of the day. what??? i was too concentrated on & excited for the free clothing i was gonna get in exchange for a bunch of shoes i don’t wear anymore :)

don’t thais & amy look great??? i was quite impressed with the fact (that i didn’t even notice until AFTER seeing these pictures) that we were all unintentionally matching! the yellow in thais’ dress…the amy’s yellow jacket…my yellow gladiator wedges! fashion blogging minds always think alike :)

i really like how this outfit came together. sometimes it’s hard to accessorize all black because you can do anything really. here are the pops of color i used to liven it up :)

first off, the mustard yellow cynthia vincent for target wedges. i told my friend they were from target & she was like “i’m going after work.” then, i had to break her heart by telling her these were only available online & are already sold out. as a side note, my *other* friend liked the color contrast of my dark navy blue toenails against the yellow. well, at least one friend was happy :)

i’ve had these skinny pants for eons…basically back when all i pretty much wore was express. they’re boot cut & i’ve been meaning for the LONGEST time now to cut them shorter & cuff them. obviously that didn’t happen. so, i just went back to the ol’ tucking in to a tight cuff, rolling them up & then safety pinning the whole shebag so it stays together. ahhhhh…i am a child of the 80s after all :)

blue toes & yellow shoes to go with my teal & gold silk rope knotted necklace. for a closer look of my DIY creation, click here. i’d say keeping this all-black outfit from looking too somber & serious was an easy WIN!

another rodarte for target…surprise! i actually got mad sick yesterday & spent it zombie-like in bed. i felt better today, but didn’t have the brainpower to really think what to wear. i grabbed this ochre lace cardigan & built my outfit from there. not super thrilled with the results, but considering i was on death’s door yesterday, not too shabby.
